Position Overview:
The Solar Clean Cooking Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining solar-based clean cooking solutions. This role involves leveraging solar energy technology to provide sustainable, eco-friendly, and affordable cooking options, primarily targeting regions with limited access to conventional energy sources. The engineer collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to innovate and promote renewable energy systems that address environmental, social, and economic challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. System Design and Development:
    • Design and prototype solar-powered cooking devices, including solar concentrators, photovoltaic-based cookers, or hybrid systems.
    • Conduct feasibility studies and develop efficient thermal or electrical systems for cooking applications.
    • Designs parts, components and assemblies to meet the requirements of assigned products.
    • Create CAD models, including part and assembly drawings, to support manufacturing, testing and assembly, and provide support for the development of tools/ fixtures to assist with assembly,
    • Evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting testing and validation procedures,
    • Support product sourcing, purchasing and selection as required by the design process,
    • Provide technical and engineering support for day-to-day tasks, product development and process improvements,
    • Confirm system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods and metrics,
    • Ensure system and product quality by designing testing methods for testing finished product and system capabilities, confirm proper fabrication, assembly and installation processes,
    • Prepare product reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends,
    • Participate in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, designs and applicable codes.
  1. Project Implementation:
    • Plan and oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of solar cooking systems.
    • Ensure compliance with technical standards, environmental regulations, and safety guidelines.
    • Put in place and enforce standards on clean cooking technologies, including safety and performance, and consider linking incentives/tax exemptions to meeting these standards.
  2. Research and Innovation:
    • Identify and analyze advancements in solar energy and clean cooking technologies.
    • Optimize designs to enhance efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  3. Community Engagement:
    • Work with local communities, NGOs, and stakeholders to assess cooking energy needs.
    • Provide training and technical support for users to ensure adoption and effective utilization of solar cookers.
  4. Monitoring and Evaluation:
    • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and conduct regular maintenance.
    • Gather feedback to improve system designs and user satisfaction.
  5. Collaboration and Reporting:
    • Collaborate with environmental scientists, engineers, and policymakers to align solar cooking projects with sustainability goals.
    • Prepare detailed technical documentation, including reports, schematics, and user manuals.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years in solar energy systems, clean cooking technologies, or related areas.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in solar energy system design tools 
    • Knowledge of thermal and photovoltaic energy principles.
    • Familiarity with materials suitable for high-temperature and sustainable use.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in cross-cultural settings.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Development and Management

    • Document and disseminate best practices and lessons learned.
  5. Sustainability and Impact Assessment
    • Evaluate the environmental, social, and economic impacts of solar cooking initiatives.
    • Develop strategies to ensure long-term sustainability, including community ownership and financing mechanisms.
    • Identify opportunities to scale up successful projects.
  6. Team Leadership and Capacity Building
    • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team to deliver project objectives.
    • Build the capacity of local staff, partners, and community members to support project implementation and sustainability.
    • Provide capacity-building support to partners on grants management, compliance, and reporting.
    • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) teams, to ensure robust oversight of projects.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, Sustainable Development, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in managing renewable energy or clean cooking projects, preferably solar-based solutions.
  • Strong understanding of sustainable energy technologies and their applications in developing regions.
  • Certifications in grants or partnership management are an advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in grants management within the NGO/INGO or donor sectors.
  • Proven expertise working with institutional donors (e.g., FCDO, EU, ECHO, USAID, UNHCR).
  • Strong understanding of donor regulations and compliance.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines, and adapt to complex environments.
  • Experience in community engagement and stakeholder coordination.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare reports on project performance and impact.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

seeking a dedicated and experienced Procurement Assistant to join our team. The
Procurement Assistant will report directly to the Procurement Officer and will be responsible
for the provision of accurate and timely assistance in administration of the procurement
process, in compliance with the Procurement Act and Regulations.
Responsibilities:
● Vendor Management: You will be in charge of finding, assessing, and managing
relationships with vendors and suppliers who offer solar-related components and
supplies, as well as negotiating advantageous terms and conditions.
● Procurement: Identify and source cables, mounting structures, batteries, inverters,
solar panels, and other supplies needed for solar energy projects while guaranteeing
their quality and affordability.
● Inventory management: Control stock levels, monitor inventory, and guarantee that
