Job Description: Solar Clean Cooking Manager

Position Summary:
The Solar Clean Cooking Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation, promotion, and management of solar clean cooking initiatives. This role involves strategic planning, operational oversight, stakeholder engagement, and project execution to expand the adoption of solar-powered cooking technologies. The manager will ensure that these initiatives are sustainable, accessible, and aligned with environmental and social goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Development and Management
    • Design and implement solar clean cooking projects in targeted regions.
    • Develop detailed work plans, budgets, and timelines to ensure project success.
    • Monitor and evaluate program performance against objectives, ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory standards.
    • Develop and manage grant application processes, including guidelines, templates, and evaluation criteria.
    • Maintain detailed records of grants, including applications, reports, and feedback letters.
    • Coordinate review meetings with partners and follow up on action points.
    • Liaise with donor representatives to ensure compliance and alignment with funding objectives.
  2. Stakeholder Engagement
    • Collaborate with local communities, governments, NGOs, and private sector partners to promote solar cooking solutions.
    • Conduct workshops and training sessions to raise awareness about the benefits of solar clean cooking technologies.
    • Represent the organization at conferences, forums, and stakeholder meetings.
  3. Technical Oversight
    • Oversee the selection, procurement, and installation of solar cooking systems.
    • Provide technical guidance to teams and end-users on the operation and maintenance of solar cooking equipment.
    • Ensure systems are designed to meet the specific needs of diverse user groups.
    • Monitor grant implementation, ensuring timely and quality submission of financial and narrative reports.
  4. Research and Innovation
    • Stay updated on the latest advancements in solar cooking technologies and integrate innovative solutions into projects.
    • Conduct feasibility studies and pilot projects to test new approaches in clean cooking.
    • Document and disseminate best practices and lessons learned.
  5. Sustainability and Impact Assessment
    • Evaluate the environmental, social, and economic impacts of solar cooking initiatives.
    • Develop strategies to ensure long-term sustainability, including community ownership and financing mechanisms.
    • Identify opportunities to scale up successful projects.
  6. Team Leadership and Capacity Building
    • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team to deliver project objectives.
    • Build the capacity of local staff, partners, and community members to support project implementation and sustainability.
    • Provide capacity-building support to partners on grants management, compliance, and reporting.
    • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) teams, to ensure robust oversight of projects.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, Sustainable Development, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in managing renewable energy or clean cooking projects, preferably solar-based solutions.
  • Strong understanding of sustainable energy technologies and their applications in developing regions.
  • Certifications in grants or partnership management are an advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in grants management within the NGO/INGO or donor sectors.
  • Proven expertise working with institutional donors (e.g., FCDO, EU, ECHO, USAID, UNHCR).
  • Strong understanding of donor regulations and compliance.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines, and adapt to complex environments.
  • Experience in community engagement and stakeholder coordination.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare reports on project performance and impact.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Familiarity with funding mechanisms and grant applications for renewable energy projects.
  • Knowledge of cultural and socio-economic dynamics in target regions.
  • Passion for environmental sustainability and social impact.
